Noddy Holder re-records lift announcements at Walsall gallery

"Slade icon Noddy Holder has used the gift of his one of a kind voice to help people find their way around Walsall's art gallery.

The Bloxwich born singer, whose force of nature vocals helped the glam-rock group rise to the top of the charts in the 1970s, returned home to re-record lift announcements for The New Art Gallery in Walsall town centre recently.

Noddy recorded the original lift announcements back in 2000 when the gallery opened, however over the years the information has become outdated due to changes to some of the gallery floors.

Due to maintenance work a couple of years ago Noddy’s recording had to be taken off the lift system, prompting requests from the public for his return.
With the work recently, Noddy was asked back to record a new version of the lift announcements and he was delighted to do so.

Noddy Holder said: “It’s always a pleasure coming back to my home town, and I am always interested in what is going on at the New Art Gallery.

"I got a preview on Tuesday of some of the works soon to be exhibited, and will definitely be returning in a few weeks to see everything completed. "Everyone should go and take a look, whether you are into art or not.

"There really is something for everybody, including the kids.

"You will of course also hear my dulcet tones guiding you in the lifts, what’s not to like.”

It will take a few weeks for the new recording to be formatted and installed but it should be up and running soon."
